Undefeated after the first round, the French U18 women's basketball team, known as the "Bleuettes," faced Sweden in the Round of 16 of the European Championship. While it's never easy to start playoff games, especially against the host nation, France demonstrated their dominance, securing a convincing 71-50 victory over their Swedish opponents on Wednesday evening.

Vincent Bourdeau's squad gradually pulled away throughout the match, limiting the Swedes to a mere 32% shooting accuracy and forcing them into a staggering 32 turnovers. This impressive defensive effort was a key factor in their success, leading to 16 steals, including 4 by Thelma Leray (3 points, 6 assists). The team also excelled in other areas, grabbing 19 offensive rebounds and dishing out 21 assists.

Offensively, the entire team shared the scoring responsibilities. However, Astrid Courbot was the most consistent performer, leading the team with 19 points on an efficient 6-of-9 shooting from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. She also added a perfect 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.

In the quarter-finals, the French team will face the winner of the Slovenia vs. Latvia match on Thursday at 6 PM.
